Cape Annie's LighthouseBefore we give you ANY reasons, let us first say this. If you have a Harbour Lights dealer, or a nautical/lighthouse store that you buy from regularly, and you are happy with their service, don't even read the rest of this page. STAY WITH THEM! Whether it's a restaurant, mechanic, grocery store, or lighthouse store, it's important to find one that gives you the quality of product and service that you desire. If they do, then reward them with your business. We're not here to attract happy customers away from other retailers. If you have been unhappy with other stores, what can Cape Annie's Lighthouse offer you? (1) We are a small 2-person, husband/wife company (yes, we can work together!). This means that our personal service goes into every customer's order. From answering your e-mails, to packaging your order and handing it to the UPS driver, we handle every phase of the business. Which means, if something were to go wrong, we can't pass the blame onto an employee, or make them handle the complaint. We gladly accept responsiblity for making sure you are happy with every aspect of your purchase. (2) Speedy service. We are closed the last 3 weeks of January and that's it! Although the physical store is closed on Tuesdays most of the year, most orders will be packaged and shipped out within 24 hours. Many of our customer comments express amazement at how fast they received their order. We do also try to keep the web site up-to-date on OUT-OF-STOCK items. We are not one of these companies that leaves every item "ORDERABLE," and then stocks the item when a customer orders it. This usually means that the customer will have to wait 3-4 weeks for that item to be restocked and shipped to them. We don't think this is fair to the customer, especially when many purchases are last-minute gifts that you need ASAP. (3) There is no "COMPARE AT: $59.95, then, OUR LOW PRICE: $39.95" nonsense, which shows an unrealistic "regular price" and makes their "regular price" look like a real bargain. We see this all the time on web sites, and we can only believe that people who make such purchases, don't really shop around. We're willing to bet that our "regular price" for an item is lower than that retailer's "LOW PRICE." In every retail gift shop, there is a standard markup for an item; double your wholesale cost, and add in the shipping charges you paid to get that item, and that will give you your retail price. We do this for EVERY item in our store, so EVERY item in our store is fairly priced! (4) Shipping charges. Before we were in business, we thought $5.95 shipping/handling for a small purchase was ridiculous. Now that we are in business, we see all the intangible costs that become a part of our shipping costs. UPS has increased their rates each of the 4 years we've been in business, with sizeable increases the last two (probably due to high gas prices). Add in the cost of packaging materials, ink cartridges to print package labels, weekly fees from UPS to pick up our packages, and we see ourselves losing money on almost every package we ship.
